Accuracy of News

Accuracy:

“Accuracy means correctness not merely in general impression but also in details.”

The accuracy of news is in fact taken for granted by the news consumers. Through it is very difficult to be accurate in news. Readers should have a feeling that whatever they are being presented is the overcome of an honest and dedicated effort of the writer. The reader should never be given an opportunity to say that they never believed what appeared in the papers. All facts given in the news item should be accepted by readers without questions what factual accuracy really means is that every statement in news items, every name and date and age, quotation every definite word or expression or sentence must be precise and presentation of the true facts. Without it journalists can lose their credibility.

The Reuter’s said: “Accuracy is the heart of what we do.”

Accuracy is a journalist proverb. News Perfactional says; “In case of doubt leave it out.” It means that if there is any doubt in facts don’t report. It is better the repeat then the report wrong.

Major news corporations are constantly competing against one another to be the first to have the faster breaking news reports. This need to be the first has caused some reports to become less accurate in their reporting.

Example: An example of media inaccuracies due to speed is: News reports were immediately posted that the congresswomen was shot and killed. But the actual story being she was shot and critically injured, not killed.

So it is job of journalist to get it first but it is above all our job to get it right.

Interest: “Interest means holding the attention sharing of environment and alerts the people.”  Interest is also main element of news. If people have interest in your story they will read and watch. If a situation draws any sort of emotional reaction, then it might contain the news element of a human interest story.

In journalism, a human interest story is a feature story that discusses a person or people or a companion animal in an emotional way. It presents people and their problems, concerns or achievement in a way that brings about interest, sympathy or motivation in the reader or viewer.

Human interest stories may be the story behind the story about an event organization, or otherwise faceless historical happening, such as about the lift of hero.

Example: Individual soldier during wartime, an interview with a survivor of a natural disaster, a random act of kindness etc. A fire burning empty building does not have interest as fire that burns somebody in the house.
