Week 6: Differences between C3 and C4plants.Factors affecting this process, Products of photosynthesis.

  • The C3  cycle is exhibited by most of the dicot while C4  cycle is exhibited by most of the monocot, tropical and subtropical plantslike wheat, rice and sugarcane  etc.
  • C3 cycle which is also known as Malvin Calvin cycle, in which first identified product is PGA. While C4  cycle also known as Hatch - Slack cycle in which first identified product is malic acid or malate.
  • The anatomy of the leaf of C3 and C4 plant is different because C4 plant having a bundle sheath cells around the vascular bundle in which C4 cycle takes place.
  • The bundle sheath having an enzyme PEP carboxylase  which recieve carbon dioxide to fix into malate while  in C3 plant cell, mesophyll cells contain ribulose phosphate is present to receive the carbon di oxide and fix the carbon in the presence of Rubisco.
