Week 12: Physical and Chemical properties of soil (soil formation, texture. pH, EC, organism and organic matter etc.) and their relationships to plants
The physical properties of soil includes light, temperature while chemical properties of the soil mineral matters, and organic matters.
The soil is derived from solid rock which is present beneath the surface of earth due to the breakdown of rocks is called weathering which may be chemical or mechanical of rocks result in soil formation.
Relative proportion of the soil particals size is known as soil texture. The weathering of rocks result to develop the texture of soil. Soil texture is responsible for holding capacity of water.
It includes the aggregation of soil particles is called soil structure. It is responsible to determine the soil characteristics.
Organic matters is composed of partially decomposed remain of plants and animals and the bodies of living microorganisms and the plant roots. The soil organic matter has colloidal properties. Therefore it increase the absorptive property of soil.
