Week 9: Variations in WE (Spellings n Pronunciation)
The way one pronounces a word may refer to the identity of the speaker. Varieties of the English language are distinguished on the bases of their pronunciation differences. American English is quite recognisable when heard, same is the case with the British English. In the same way, non-native speakers will be quickly identified. Same goes for the writing, as the different varieties follow different spelling systems.
This session will lead students to know and understand the pronunciation and spelling differences among various native and non-native varieties of Englishes.
