Week 4: English in Europe

English is one of the official languages of the European Union, meaning it is used for many official documentation and meetings. Speculation on how the English language would evolve as a standard in a Union with hundreds of different languages spoken among its people, has lead to some interesting ideas. One of which is the idea of “Euro-English” as a completely different kind of English. 

Euro-English is an emerging variety of the greater family of World Englishes used by the speakers in the European Union, whose mother tongue is not English. It belongs to the Expanding Circle with many idiosyncratic linguistic features that ditinguish it from Native British English.
