Gastric juice
Introduction :
The food that is now known as bolus (a semi solid form) passes from the oral cavity to the stomach to encounter its secretion known as gastric juice where next phase of food processing (digestion) takes place and the semi solid food becomes a liquid called chyme.
Understanding of the stomach and its secretion helps to deal with a lot of diseases that commonly happen in populations due to unhealthy food habits and lifestyles
Learning objectives:
- Explain the biochemical composition of gastric juice
- Describe the mechanism of acid production in the gastric secretion
- Describe the biochemical functions of gastric secretion
- Explain the hormonal and neuronal control of gastric secretion
- Overview the diseases associated with abnormal gastric secretion
