Week 12: 5.3.2 Divergence and curl of B(General case ) Example 5.7, Example 5.8, Example 5.9, Example 5.10,
Learning outcome:
After successful completion of this week students will be able to
- Solve divergence and curl of B using the Biot-Savart law
- Learn divergence of B is zero and Amper's Law
- calculate the magnetic field due to straight wire, magnetic field due to surface current and magnetic field due to solenoind using amper's law
Lesson Plan:
Lecture 1:
5.3.2 Divergence and curl of B(General case )
- Ampere's Law
- Divergence of B is zero (Proof)
Lecture 2:
- Magnetic field due to straight current carrying wire using Ampere's Law (Example 5.7)
- Find the magnetic field of an infinite uniform surface current K= K x(cap), flowing over the xyplane. (Example 5.8)
Lecture 3:
- Find the magnetic field of a very long solenoid, consisting of n closely wound turns per unit length on a cylinder of radius R, each carrying a steady current I using Ampere's Law (Example 5.9)
- Magnetic field due to toroidal coil (Example 5.10)
