Fundamentals of Geography (GEOG 5101).
This course has been designed particularly for those students who have little or no background in Secondary School geography but wish to have the opportunity to take at least an introductory course at university. This course does not have a prerequisite. As with most of first-year subjects, the content of Geography has been arranged to provide students with an overview of the discipline. The overall objective is to introduce you to many different areas of geographical inquiry and in the process, provide you with the means to develop a broad and intelligent awareness of the dynamic world we live in. Geographers seek answers to three broad questions: Where is it? Why is it there? Why is it important? In its instructional strategy, the course makes use of case studies which are intended to bring into clear focus the interrelationships and interdependencies between people and selected aspects of our inanimate (physical) and living (biotic) environments. Some topics are covered by a systematic review.
