The purpose of this course is to set the stage for the discussion of how data are used to support student learning by reviewing some of the reasons for the increased attention given to data analysis in education today, and by providing an organizational framework to describe the use of data in education. Moreover, the purpose of statistics is to allow sets of data to be compared so that analysts can look for meaningful trends and changes. Analysts review the data so that they can reach conclusions regarding its meaning.

After the end of the course the prospective teachers will be able to:

  1. Understand and elaborate on the relationship between statistics and research in education
  2. Apply various statistical techniques in the research on different educational problems
  3. State hypotheses in various forms, and identify & apply suitable statistical techniques to test them
  4. Differentiate between parametric  and non-parametric statistics
  5. Collect, organize, and analyze various types of data (both qualitative and quantitative) in the light of modern available statistical techniques and  software
