  • From sound to symbol
  • Nine different type periods
  • Influential periods and styles in history
  • Identify type categories: serif, oldstyle, transitional, modern, sans serif, slab, 19th Century Grotesque, 20th Century Grotesque, script, and decorative
  • Basic design principles: balance, emphasis, rhythm and unity.
  • Research a particular typeface and period in history
  • A poster for an influential type designer
  • Legibility and Readability

  • Form and structure of letterforms
