- Identify type categories: serif, oldstyle, transitional, modern, sans serif, slab, 19th Century Grotesque, 20th Century Grotesque, script, and decorative
- Basic design principles: balance, emphasis, rhythm and unity.
- Research a particular typeface and period in history
