Histology of Simple Epithelial Tissue

The human tissues are generally classified into four varities, which are called the four basic tissues of the body.

  1. The epithelial tissue
  2. The connective tissue
  3. The muscular tissue
  4. The nervous tissue

The epithelium is defined as a collection of closely packed cells with very small amount of extracellular matrix. All epithelia are supported by loose connective tissue. Between the epithelium and connective tissue there ia always present a sheet known as basement membrane.

Students should be able to describe 

Differentiate between squamous, cuboidal, columnar and pseudostratified epithelium
