Week 8: Camera Operation

Although television cameras are getting more complex so far as digital electronics are concerned, they are also becoming more user-friendly. The automation of some camera functions cannot make a person an expert camera operator overnight, however. Even the smartest automated camera has no way of knowing what part of the event a camera operator considers important and how best to clarify and intensify the selected event details through maximally effective shots. Nor can it exercise aesthetic judgment—how to frame an extreme close-up, for example. This is why it is important to learn as much as possible about camera operation before trying to make productions.
