Week 12. To perform load test of the alternator to observe the change in its output parameters.
Short circuit test is done to determine the Copper losses in the circuit. When we short circuit the secondary the current drawn is mainly dependent on the resistance offered by the windings in the machine. This is done for the full load secondary current to determine the full load loss. Once we determine the losses the efficiency can be calculated theoretically for any load without actually loading it. Thus, this method is indirect method to find out efficiency of electrical machine.
