Week 6: Genre, Register n Language Teaching

In a functional theory of language, analysts are not just interested in what language is, but why language is; not just what language means, but how language means. In this section, it is asserted that an understanding of language, and the teaching of that language, must take into account not only the nature of the finished product, the text, but also the processes by which language or text is produced and interpreted. One of the major ways of exploring this is by developing more delicate theoretical and practical accounts of register and genre.
