Major objectives of this course are:
- To convey a general understanding of how sociology developed as a discipline within the milieu of 20th-century and to trace the development of the main theoretical traditions in sociology
- To make students conversant with the most important theories in contemporary sociology
- To enable the students to analyze, use, and criticize those theories.
- Exposure to a wide range of texts, developing an ability to read closely, cultivating the competence to "discover" the theory in these texts and learning to discuss it coherently.

Sessional: 20%
term paper for mid: 30%
Final exam: 50%
