Major objectives of this course are:
1. To convey a general understanding of how sociology developed as a discipline within the milieu of 20th-century and to trace the development of the main theoretical traditions in sociology
2. To make students conversant with the most important theories in contemporary sociology
3. To enable the students to analyze, use, and criticize those theories.
4. Exposure to a wide range of texts, developing an ability to read closely, cultivating the competence to "discover" the theory in these texts and learning to discuss it coherently.

Sessional: 20%
term paper for mid: 30%
Final exam: 50%
