Course Description:
This course deals with English novels written in 20th Century. Fiction, as a fabolous genre of literature holds a pivotal position in terms of recpetion and readership around the globe. Since its inception as a distinct genre of literature in the 18th century, English novel made tremendous progress through its universal appeal, thematic and aesthetic scope, revolving around wide range of social, political, religious, economic and artistic features.
This course is designed to create an enabling platform for undergraduate and graduate students to broaden their literary and analytical skills. They will learn to comprehend this genre besides improving their interpretetive skills as students of literature. At the end of the course, the students will have:
a) enhanced understanding of the fictional writings
b) better equipped to relate fictional characters, situations and circumstances with real human life
c) better placed to identify various elements of novels like: Plot, Setting and Characterization.
