The practical portion is planned to direct students towards collection, preservation and identification of all insects. Students will do collections of insects from different habitats following labeling of insects.

CONTENTS
Theory:
Introduction; Phylum Arthropoda and its classification; Metamorphosis and its types; external and internal morphology and physiology with a particular reference to typical insect, ‘ak’ grasshopper, Poekilocerus pictus; Insect classification and nomenclature; salient characters of insect orders with important families and examples of important members.
Practical:
Methods of collection and preservation of insects; characters of classes of Arthropoda; types of metamorphosis in insects; practical demonstration of external and internal morphology of typical insect, ‘ak’ grasshopper, Poekilocerus pictus; preparation of temporary mounts of different types of insect appendages; order wise identification of different insects on the basis of their salient characters.
