DESCRIPTION & OBJECTIVES |
The course provides the students with theoretical knowledge of the physiological and biochemical basis of Nutrition
CONTENTS |
Theory: Chemistry of essential nutrients and their functions; Biochemical and physiological basis of nutritional requirements; Digestion and absorption of nutrients in the gastrointestinal tract. Metabolism of water, carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, minerals and vitamins. Hormonal regulation of metabolism and intermediary metabolism. Nutrients need calorimetry and basal metabolism.
