This course offers an exploration of the structures, systems, effects, conventions, and genres of contemporary media with an emphasis on improving media literacy to foster critical and educated consumption of media. This course will provide an insight into contemporary mass media and their organizational structures and how the developed world maintains its media hegemony over developing countries through their modes of communication e.g. wire services, TV channels, radio satellites, newspapers and magazines.
