COURSE DESCRIPTION

History repeats itself. Graphic Design is a visual communication and the aesthetic expression of concepts and ideas. Though the term graphic design is very modern but the roots of graphic design belongs to prehistoric art. Learn about the evolution of Graphic Design and the origin of many Art movements. The course will take the students to a fascinating journey through the 36,000 years old history of Graphic Design, from cave painting to the Industrial Revolution, to the Arts and Crafts Movement to the birth of Modernism, Bauhaus, and the development of corporate identity. How has visual language evolved from past to present will be learn through the course.

Upon successful completion students should be able to:

  • Identify the chronological order of development of Graphic Design through its prehistoric origin to modern art movements.
  • Recognize the origin, evolution and revolution in the field of Graphic Design.  
  • Identify the impact of social, cultural, technological and economic developments on design.
  • Think critically about the relationship between historic and modern design styles.
  • To unerstand how advancement in technology reshaping the field of Graphic Design in digital era.
