DESCRIPTION & OBJECTIVES

Digital technology has become an essential part of the creative process in this modern world. It has transformed the disciplines of painting, drawing, sculpture, miniature and sound art. The objective of this course is to introduce digital devices and programs to studio practice students and educate them how they convert their traditional art skills into digital art and meet the requirements of digital world in their professional career.

Student Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Use Photoshop tools and Graphic tablet effectively
  • Identify the steps required to create a concept art 
  • Produce art work in different techniques of digital art
  • Able to identify the difference between vector graphics and raster graphics

Lecture will be delivered through PowerPoint slides and by showing videos about digital art to the students.

A detail discussion on comparison between traditional Art and Digital Art. Though there is obvious difference but what creative skills required for both traditional art and digital arts, will be discussed in detail.

Concept Art (Pencil Drawing)

Lecture on Concept Art through Power Point Presentation. What is Concept Art and What is the purpose of Concept art in digital Arts?

Art Work: Students will create a conceptual drawing with pencil on any of the sea creature after researching about it. At the time of presentation each student will explain verbally about his or her concept in class. This concept art will be convert into digital art later when students have much information about photoshop tools and graphic tablet.

Introduction of Adobe Photoshop(difference between Raster Graphics and Vector Graphics) and Graphic Tablet.

How to prepare canvas and image to start work in Photoshop. Detail lecture on interface of Photoshop (Menu Bar, Status Bar, Property Bar/Panels, Standard Tool Bar and create and save document options).

Art Work: Self Potrait with Pen tool in Photoshop

After demonstration on Vector Art of style, Students will draw their portrait in Photoshop through pen tool.

Introduction on Collage and Digital Collage. Demonstration on selection of images through different tools and techniques in photoshop. Also explain how to manage layers and transform to scale images.

Art Work: Digital Collage

Two topics will be given to the students My Dream Land and My Wirdest Nightmare. Ask them to choose one of them and make a digital collage in photoshop by simple cutting and pasting.

Introduction of Abstract Art . Student will choose any work of abstract art from history and convert into digital art in photoshop.

Digital Inking in Adobe Photoshop (Line Art)

Demonstration by sharing screen on Zoom about digital inking in Photoshop through pen tool or Graphic Tablet.

Art Work: 

Students will do digital inking in their Concept art which they sketched in first class with pencil.

Digital Painting in Adobe Photoshop

Demonstration on Tips and Techniques of digital painting and blending techniques. How to adjust brush stokes and dynamics in Photoshop. How to create custom brushes and custom swatches and palette.

Art Work: Students will paint of their pencil drawing concept art. They will finalize it through creating a proper scene (matte Painting) by painting background too.
