Week 7-8 : Geological hazards such as floods, landslides and earthquakes
Geologic hazards are responsible for great loss of life and destruction of property. In the twentieth century more than a million people worldwide have been killed by earthquakes alone, and the value of the property destroyed by earthquakes, volcanoes. In these topics, we are exploring the use of secondary earthquake hazards, such as landslides, as an ‘entry point’ in order to engage with communities that are exposed to earthquakes . We are generating new knowledge around the patterns, types, and hazards of landslides in the region, so that we can better anticipate the effects of future earthquakes. We are also using scenarios and participatory approaches to help design strategies to mitigate these effects ....
