Latin America faces great social and economic challenges.                                                                                    
During the second half of the twentieth century most Latin American societies moved from authoritarian military dictatorship, various Marxist insurgencies, and toward democracy.                                                                            
Its primary challenge remains how to improve standards of living, strengthen democratic institutions, and provide education and jobs for growing populations
