5. Types of Educational Research
Students will be able to:
1. Define survey research, and differentiate between sample surveys and census surveys, and between cross-sectional and longitudinal surveys. 2. Describe survey research designs including cross-sectional studies and longitudinal studies. 3. Describe the procedures involved in conducting survey research.
4.Briefly define, and state the purpose of correlational research. 5. Describe the correlational research process. 6. State the major purposes of relationship studies, and identify and briefly describe the steps involved in conducting a relationship study and interpreting the data. 7. State the major purposes of prediction studies, and identify and briefly describe the steps involved in conducting a prediction study and interpreting the data. 8. Describe other correlation-based analyses and when it is appropriate to use them. 9. Describe the problems to consider in interpreting correlation coefficients.
9. Briefly state the purpose of causal–comparative research and describe the similarities and differences among causal–comparative, correlational, and experimental research. 10. Describe the causal–comparative research process.
11. Briefly define and state the purpose of experimental research. 12. Briefly define the threats to validity in experimental research. 13. Define and provide examples of group experimental designs.
