Nanotechnology Applications in Energy Sector

Nanotechnology provide the potential to enhance energy efficiency across all branches of industry and economical renewable energy production through new technological solutions and by optimizing current energy production technologies.

For example using nanotechnology in the manufacture of batteries offers the following benefits:

  • Reducing the possibility of batteries catching fire by providing less flammable electrode material.
  • Increasing the available power from a battery and decreasing the time required to recharge a battery. 
  • Increasing the shelf life of a battery

Nanotechnology can address the shortage of fossil fuels such as diesel and gasoline by:

  • Making the production of fuels from low grade raw materials economical
  • Increasing the mileage of engines
  • Making the production of fuels from normal raw materials more efficient
  • By producing bio fuel (Ethanol) from wasted raw materials e.g, plants or crops residue etc.

Similarly highly efficient, cheap, long lasting and light weight solar cells can be produced by using nanomaterials.
