THE IMPACT OF SCIENCE ON SOCIETY

            The science is a broad field of human knowledge concentrated with facts which are logically explained by rules, regulations and principals. Blessings of science are numerous. Science has completely changed the life style of man. Now man is living in totally different world than the world in which he was living in 17th and 18th century. From home to office, from farm to factory, from village to town, in short everywhere in life now we can see the unlimited blessings of science. At home we find that science has provided many comforts to the human beings. We use grinders, oven, shakers, chopper, toaster, refrigerators, A.C’s etc. which have brought a revolution in working of a kitchen and house wife. We know that these technologies are very useful but it is also making the people lazy. We should avoid this laziness and use the machines in a limit.

            The progress in the information technology is also one of the great blessings of science. Works can be done easier through high-tech machines like computers and printers. It gives less work for humans and our job can be done faster. It makes us feel comfortable and easy to live. It also helps us organize our daily activities. The scientist named “Thomas Alva Edison” had made electricity which is now very useful to all human beings. “Charles Babbage” was the well – known scientist and his biggest invention is computer. And since 1992 we were provided with the facility named “internet” by Tim Burners Lee which is provided with worldwide information. Some may say that they can’t do anything without a computer. Some believe, it is a sort of enjoyment. In fact it is true because computer makes life more enjoyable and exploration of new things possible. It is an adventure to use computer. It provides us all the information and is used to solve mathematical calculations. Through science and technology, it is easier for us to communicate other people. It is also significant in the field of business because transactions and other events are done through the computer. Science and technology let every people live in an easy and modern life. It opens the door and allows people to enter into a new world which is fully developed and well civilized. The biggest achievement of human knowledge is mobiles. Before, we were writing letters and after some time getting the reply. With the help of mobiles we can talk to any person, send messages and can do mobile banking.

            Atomic energy is used for many development purposes. It is the cheapest source of energy. Electricity can be produced by it. It is used for the purpose to cure cancer and other dangerous diseases. Low yielding tracts of land can be developed into high yielding fields with the help of atomic energy. Rockets are sent for space exploration. In these rockets atomic fuel is used. This fuel is also used in the submarines.

            Health department is another era where science has given real blessings. The discovery of new drugs and invention of methods of treatments have now revolutionized the whole field. In past epidemic cost millions of lives. If an epidemic broke out there was no effective remedy of it except death of victim. In this scientific age modern medical appliances have made it easy to detect the cause of diseases. New methods of surgery and operations are being used now a day. Laser is used for the treatment of many diseases. In the field of surgery angioplasty and open heart surgery is common. Replacement of body organs is also possible like kidney and liver transplant. Cosmetic surgery is helpful in making those people beautiful which are not satisfied with their appearance or which are a victim of some accident.

Disadvantages:

            Science and technology is not giving us only the positive side but it also has its disadvantages that truly affect human life. If we look around the surroundings, it is so crowded, polluted and damaged which is caused mainly by the existence of invented technologies throughout the world. Its existence totally affects our mother earth and our natural environment is replaced by new big buildings and factories that are managed by technology- based owners. Science and technology also affects our health and lifestyles. Environment is the first victim of science as a threat which has a marked effect on the people.  Pollution occurs due to the increase in industrial activities. The incessant release of more dust, smoke and other toxic substances makes breathing very difficult and if a person continues to live in such a polluted atmosphere, he or she will contract respiratory diseases or can even end up with lung cancer.  Water pollution is also a threatening problem to mankind.  Dyes and soap when discharged continuously in rivers, lakes or ponds cause the water to become undrinkable.  The living organisms like the fish, toads, and algae all get poisoned.  In some regions, uneducated fishermen collect the infected fish on the banks of the river.  The fish is cooked and eaten.  As a result, the consumer gets contaminated.  Similarly, the whole country’s people are put in danger.

            Another negative effect of science is the destruction of the protective ozone layer caused by CFC”s (Chloro Floro Carbon) released by the machines like refrigerators and air-conditioners Greenhouse effect is occurring.  The ultra-violet rays of the sun reach us easily and this leads to skin problems due to sun radiation.  Radiation also increases the risk of cataract and lung cancer. The smoke from factories and old vehicles are polluting atmosphere and making environment dirty.          

The weapons we have now would make the atomic bomb look like a firecracker. Our lives are in danger because bombs are made to blast thousands or millions of people. New guns are made for robbery. People are rebelling against their own blood, and it's not fair. This all is done by the cruel advancement of science. Can you believe science has increased the capability of men to kill each other?

            Science helps humanity.  With Science we are able to know the world around us in a better way. All the convenience and creature comforts we enjoy on earth wouldn't have been possible without advances in science. Science is also even a solution to things like global warming. Science does not pose a threat to humanity unless it is misused or used irresponsibly.
