This is an elective course at BS geography level. This course focuses on providing the understanding of advanced knowledge about Water resources, water resource management, Hydrology, distribution and availability of water. This course provides a basic introduction to hydrologic processes, including fundamentals of hydrology, evaporation, precipitation, rainfall types, runoff modeling and their processes. Students will understand the overland flow, groundwater flow and storage, surface storage, channel flow, storm water runoff, Floods, Glacial water and water quality. This course investigates the groundwater quality and quantity which represents the most important source of drinking water. Knowledge of hydro geography is essential for the sustainable management of water sources and students develop the skills to identify not only the various ways of water’s appearance and flow but also familiar with various techniques (GIS and RM) and will be able to use them to solve practical problems of water resources management.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Students understand the role of hydrology and water resources management.
  2. Understand the key process affecting the net rate of water vapor transfer to atmosphere.
  3. Understand the origin and formation of precipitation and its forms as rain, sleet and snow.
  4. Students can compute evaporation rates from evaporation pans.
  5. Understand the factors affecting the rainfall-runoff processes between total rainfall, abstraction losses to direct runoff and the formation of stream flow hydrographs.
  6. Students consider the basic mechanisms of groundwater storage in confined and unconfined aquifers.
