Regional concepts includes a systematic study of  the Worlds geographic realms, including Europe, United  States- Canada, Russia, Middle America, South America, Southwest Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa and Australia- New Zealand. Geographic concepts, such as map reading and spatial analysis are first introduced. Then , the world is classified into geographic realms and regions using both physical and social criteria. Each realm results from a unique interaction between the human societies and the physical and biological environment. The physical, cultural, political and social features of each realms are studied, along with any special regional concern. Students will learn the relationships between the global, the regional and the local levels, particularly how places are inserted in regional and global processes. Students will see how human activities and the regional environment interact, particularly how societies reflect their regional environment. Through the case studies the students will explore the regions resources, climatic conditions, physical features, economic development, religions and cultural variations.
