This course is interdisciplinary in scope. we will explore connections among religion, literature, social organization, and film in the formation of cultures in South Asia. The course will introduce the students about representative themes and debates from a range of temporal, geographical, and social locations in South Asia and invite attention to their impact on the rest of the world. This module will also introduce students to key concepts and questions pertaining to the contemporary politics of South Asia. To that end it will examine the development and evolution of political institutions in the region, the role of religion, political economy of development, and the international relations of South Asia.

1. Describe the history and culture of South Asia.
2. Identify the physiographic variation
3. Understand the climatic impacts on this region.
4. Refined the ability to assess critically the importance of political and institutions in the evolution of contemporary South Asia.
