The mathematics is very important in the fields like Business, social sciences, Biological sciences and in Physical and natural sciences. This course enables the students to learn about the concepts of mathematics that are almost used in every fields and are essential to learn.
Aims : To give the basic knowledge of Mathematics and prepare the students not majoring in mathematics.
Objectives : After completion of this course the student should be able to:
1. Understand the use of the essential tools of basic mathematics;
2. Apply the concepts and the techniques in their respective disciplines;
3. Model the effects non-isothermal problems through different domains;
Contents:
1. Real and complex numbers, Introduction to sets, set operations, functions, types of functions.
2.Matrices: Introduction to matrices, types of matrices, inverse of matrices, determinants, system of linear equations, Cramer’s rule. Quadratic equations: Solution of quadratic equations, nature of roots of quadratic equations, equations reducible to quadratic equations.
3. Sequence and Series: Arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions.
4. Permutation and combinations: Introduction to permutation and combinations, Binomial Theorem: Introduction to binomial theorem.
5. Trigonometry: Fundamentals of trigonometry, trigonometric identities.
6. Graphs: Graph of straight line, circle and trigonometric functions.
