Credit Hours: 3

Pre-Requisite:

Classical Mechanics-I

Introduction:

This course titled Classical Mechanics II is intended for students enrolling for BS (4 years) and Msc(2 years) in Physics in 6th and 2nd Semester respectively. The aim of this course is to extend the studies of Classical Mechanics I  in previous semester. Its ideas also help students in understanding concepts of other courses like quantum mechanics and condensed matter. This course provides the students the latest treatment of classical mechanical systems so that students face least difficulty in entering from classical Physics to Quantum mechanics. The purpose of the course is to develop their problem solving skills and mathematical techniques to solve daily life problems.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. To write the equations of motion for complicated mechanical systems using the Lagrange's and Hamilton's equations of motion.

  2. To develop problem solving approach and critical thinking, Students will be able to solve problems in applied physics.

  3. To start advance fields of Physics like quantum mechanics and field theory on the basis of Lagrangian and Hamiltonian technique.

READINGS:

1. Classical dynamics of particles and systems by S. T. Thorntom and J. B. Marion, 5th. Edition Harcourt Brace and company (2012).
