This course presents major theoretical and philosophical foundations of social work practice with groups and explores group practice models, group work approaches in terms of purpose and setting. It also helps students understand group mechanics in organizational and community settings. It also explores group work research and evaluation. Students will gain an in-depth view of the many ways that groups are used to help people address personal problems, cope with disabilities, strengthen families and communities, resolve conflict, achieve social change, and more. It offers an authoritative coverage of theoretical, practical, and methodological concerns—coupled with a clear focus on empowerment and diversity—for group work and direct social work practice.
