Introduction and Objectives:

This course introduces the students to the concepts of register and genre in Stylistics. The students will be acquainted with different levels at which a text can be analyzed to determine its style. By knowing how language is structured at different levels, the students will be able to identify different choices made by the writer of a particular text which define his/her individual style. Similarly, knowing particular features of different language varieties will also make the students to correctly determine the genre and register of the text they are analyzing.
