This course aims at introducing the students to drama written and staged during the later 19th and early 20th century. The dramatists included in the course had greatly influenced the contemporary dramatic tradition through their technical innovations and handling of different themes relevant to the social and political situations of the age. Their contributions sparked a new life in the stagnant genre of drama and led to its revival on English literary scene. Hence, studying this course will not only enable the students to track the period in the history of English drama that changed its course but  also prepare them for the study of subsequent dramatic texts.
