Introduction to Course

Human Resources Development (HRD) is a framework for the expansion of  human Capital within an organization/society through the development of both the processes and the individual to achieve performance improvement. It emphasizes the integrated use of training, organization, and career development efforts to improve individual, group and organizational effectiveness. HRD develops the key competencies that enable individuals to perform current and future jobs through planned learning activities. Groups within organizations use HRD to initiate and manage change. Also, HRD ensures a match between individual and organizational needs.

Course Pre-Requsitie:

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course, students will be able to understand:

  • The concept of Human Resource Development in an organizational and societal context and its significance for survival in today’s dynamic environment
  • To comprehend the foundations and framework of Human Resource Development and understand how HRD and organizational learning can facilitate survival and effectiveness of organizations in turbulent business environments
  • Key constituents of HRD framework, including individual development, team development and organizational development.
  • Application of learned concepts and tools in Pakistan’ s business environment
  • To articulate student learning; and practice for devising implementation plans for HRD

Teaching methodology for the course is designed to augment participants’ learning through (a) reading & discussion, (b) observation and (c) experimentation. Besides readings, lectures and discussions, in-class personal assessment exercises will be conducted.

Week 1

Analyzing employability skills and workforce education Needs , Nature and Functions of Contemporary employability skills and workforce Education as well as recent and continuing trends both locally and internationally impacting on it.

 

Week 2

Critically examine the necessary changes of workforce education and training in response to the cutting-edge employability skills in real practice so that the employability performance can be strengthened accordingly.

 

Week 3

Critical issues in Human Resource Development the opportunity to examine critical issues in HRD as a tool for enabling organizations to maximizing effectiveness and efficiency through manpower development.

 

Week 4

Investigating the foundation of HRD in learning the current and emerging ideas related to HRD roles , Process and Functions and selected HRD practices in terms of Employee Socialization and Orientation , individual career development and management development.

 

Week 5

Key Trends on HRD including the increased emphasis of strategic perspective on HRD use of new technology and HRD programs for culturally diverse employees  will also be expires

 

Week 6

Design and implementation for HRD the opportunity to examine critical issues in human resource development as a tool for enabling organizations to maximize effectiveness and efficiency and critical reflection on practical experience.

 

Week 7

Focus will be on relating theory into practice highlighting the use of IT and authentic multimedia resources in Teaching and learning process , employing professional judgment and managing on-going improvement in achieving quality educational outcomes in the context of HRD.

 

Week 8

Knowledge management This provides participants an opportunity to examine the development of theory and practice of knowledge management which is considered to have critical impact on the field of human resource training and development.

 

MID TERM EXAMS

 

Week 9

Measuring and Improving human performance in organization and understand on the critical roles of performance in Organization

 

 

Week 10

Participants will examine the principles and the process of performance management the methods of measuring job performance and the application of performance review and appraisal systems . These concepts and practices will also be examined in connection to various practices for improving employees performance including rewards and incentives staff disciplines , performance feedback , coaching and mentoring.

 

Week 11

Organizational Behavior and Development

Introduces participants to the study of organizational behavior with a specific focus on organizational development.

 

Week 12

The ideas and practices of organizational development will be considered in relation to organizational change, employee development and organizational strategy.

 

Week 13

Participating in various learning tasks and projects , participants will be fully aware of the importance of human behavior within organization and the critical issues related to organizational adaptation to change and development.

 

Week 14

Training and Consulting Skills

The will examine the important training skills involved in human resource training and development , in particular , facilitation skills , consulting skills and coaching skills.

 

Week 15

The selection and use of these skills in various situation and contexts , the role of trainers as well as the impacts and effects in practical application of these skills will be critically discussed
