AN- 202 PRINCIPLES OF ANIMAL NUTRITION 3(2-1)
Introduction: This course is aimed at understanding the basis of nutrition. It also critically focuses on digestive system and digestion related to poultry ruminants and horses. This course gives the knowledge about micro and primary nutrients. It also explicitly tells about functions of essential nutrients in maintaining life along with identification and evaluation of different feedstuffs.
Prerequisite: Introduction to Animal Husbandry (ANSC-5101)
Learning outcome: Students will be equiped with basic concepts of nutrition and animal nutrition
Contents
Theory
Importance of nutrition in livestock and poultry production; history, scope and development of science of nutrition; basic concepts in animal nutrition; classification of nutrients and their functions; soil plant animal relationship; digestive systems, digestion and absorption of nutrients in different classes of livestock and poultry; flow of nutrients in animal body.
Practical
Identification of feed ingredients through visual and microscopic methods; Parts of digestive system in ruminant and monogastric animals; Collection of feed ingredients samples and their preparation
