DESCRIPTION& OBJECTIVES

Human rights law is a distinct area of law and raises a number of challenging questions for lawyers: how can international human rights standards are implemented across diverse cultures, nation’s religions, economic systems? What rights and responsibilities does the individual have under international law?

What is the relationship between state sovereignty and human rights? These questions are a matter of concern not only to international lawyers but also to all those interested in understanding the difficulties that arise in protecting human rights at an international level. Human Rights course introduces students to the international system for the protection of human rights as developed through the United Nations system for the protection of human rights as developed through the United Nations system post 1945.

INTENDED LEARNING OUTCOMES

Students are introduced to the theoretical and practical problems that arise when attempting to enforce international standard for the protection of human rights.

Contents of the course would be strictly followed as per the Course Outline provided by the Law College UoS.

RESEARCH PROJECT

In lieu of Mid-term exams , a  written assignment minimum of 3000 to 4000 words having 30 Maks was required to be submitted by the students.In this regard topics to students were duly assigned.Clear guidelines regarding the structure and format of the assignment  were given to students well before time by the department.

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

Sessional: 20 Marks

Mid-Term: 30 Marks

Final Exam: 50 Marks
