Primary objective of teaching biomechanics is to gain better understanding of cause-effect mechanism of human body motion. The basis for field of biomechanics is that the laws of mechanics apply to living organisms just as well as they do to inanimate objects. Biomechanics is a diverse interdisciplinary file with branches in discipline as varies as zoology, botany, physical, anthropology, orthopedics, bioengineering and human performance. In all of these disciplines the general purpose of biomechanics is same “ to understand cause-effects relationship that determine motions of living organisms”.  In human performance biomechanics contribute to description, explanation & prediction of mechanical aspects of human movement, exercise, sports and play. Further aims of teaching biomechanics are to provide quality learning & practical skills for mechanical assessment & treatment of patient suffering from musculoskeletal, neurological & cardiac problems due to altered mechanics of posture or movement in daily activities. As our graduates after getting better conceptual learning & practical skill can provide insight in conservative treatment; and can improve quality of life with regain of physical independence of a patient.

LEARNING OUTCOME:

By the time the students finish the course, they will be able to

  • analyze and interpret the principles and methods of clinical screening in physical therapy.

  • Learn the human body skeletal, neural and muscular functional anatomy and biomechanical physiology with appreciate the difference between role of mechanical stress and strain. illustrate the movements possible at joints of skeletal system with basic understanding of human movement and linear biomechanical principles and Newtonian mechanics.

  • Understand how the laws of physics can explain body structure and function of humans and animals.

  • Learn to apply principles of physics when solving tasks associated with human locomotion.

  • Be trained to plan, conduct and analyze results of simple biomechanics experiments

  • Use engineering tools (hardware and software) for solving problems of biomechanics

  • Be taught how to independently search more information about topics in biomechanics

  • They will understand diagnosis of musculoskeletal disorders with a focus on the scope of physical therapy practice, the role of conservative management and referral.

  • Learn ergonomics and its application in daily activities of life.
