DESCRIPTION & OBJECTIVES

 

Introduction:
The course teaching of English language aims at inculcating the knowledge and skills among prospective teachers required for teaching English at elementary & secondary levels. The focus of the course is teaching reading, writing, listening and speaking as important and essential skills of language. It also includes learning the skills to teach grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, comprehension and creative writing.

Objectives:

On the successful completion of this course the student teachers will be able to:

  • Apply various language teaching approaches and methods according to the situation.
  • Exhibit practical skills in teaching English language at secondary level bringing into use the theoretical knowledge about language teaching
  • Develop the four communication skills of reading ,writing ,listening & speaking effectively & efficiently

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

 

Mid-term:  30 marks (students will write down a term paper)

Final term: 50 marks

Sessional work: 20 marks (written assignments and presentations)

 

RULES AND REGULATIONS

 

Rules and Regulations:

  1. Attendance: students are expected to attend all meeting of their courses. 75% attendance is compulsory.  In the case of any absence, students are responsible for course content during their absence.
  2. Absenteeism: a record is consistently compiled and updated. If the student has been absent for more than six meetings at a stretch without a valid excuse, he will be dropped from the course.
  3. Behavior: students who engage in behavior that disrupts the learning environment for others may be subjected to disciplinary action under the rules and regulation of UOS.
  4. Exam cheating: it is not permitted to speak during the exam. Failure to abide by this rule will result in their exam marks being cancelled.
