Ø   Groom the students in all four communication  skills (reading, listening ,writing, and speaking).

Ø   impart an understanding of the nature of the phenomenon of the four skills

Ø   Enable the student to make a practical usage of these skills in real life.

Course Outline Receptive Skills (Reading and Listening) Unit 1: Reading Skill

·      What is reading?

·      Types of reading (intensive reading, extensive reading,        skimming, scanning,  loud reading, silent reading)

·      Techniques for reading

·      Reading comprehension and summarizing

·      Approaches to teaching reading

·      Increasing Reading Speed (Slides and OHP)

·      Faulty reading habits

Unit 2: Listening Skill

· What is listening?

· Types of listening

· Real Life listening (purpose and expectations, response, visibility of the speaker. environmental clues)

· Listening  to EFL ( hearing  the sounds,  understanding  intonation  and stress,    coping    with    redundancy    and    noise,    using    visual    and

environmental clues)

· Techniques for Improving listening

Productive Skills (Writing and Speaking) Unit 3: Writing Skill

· What is writing?

· Approaches to teaching writing

· Creative and Imaginative writing

· Paragraph writing and Essay writing

· CV writing and job application writing

· Writing a research Paper

· Report writing

· Brain storming

· Punctuation

 

Unit 4: Speaking skill

· What is speaking?

· Approaches to teaching speaking

· Techniques for improving speaking

· Giving Presentations

· Role play
