In modern societies, the state accepts much responsibility for the health of its citizens. This is reflected in the high level of public expenditure on health services in most industrialized coun-tries. The state also takes steps to protect and promote the health of the public. Indeed, governments are aware of the health effects of people’s socio-economic circumstances, environment, and lifestyles. After the outbreak of COVID 19 within the last months there are remarkable changes in public policy affecting health care around the globe.The aim of this unit is to explore how COVID-19 is changing the debate over health reforms and why is health and healthcare a prominent political issue now?
