Week 4-5: Important viral diseases of plants
Many viruses cause distinctive symptoms in their hosts, and so the disease and the virus can be identified quickly by the symptoms. In the many other cases in which this is not possible, however, the diseases are diagnosed and the viruses are identified primarily through virus transmission tests to specific host plants by sap inoculation or by grafting, and sometimes by certain insect, nematode, fungus, or mite vectors.
