Responsibilities of the Prospective Teacher

All prospective teachers will:

1. Follow instructions of Teaching Practice Supervisor and Teaching Practice Coordinator

2. Obey the rules and regulations of:

a. the teacher education institution

b. the cooperating school

c. the Teaching Practice system

d. the code of ethics.

3. Act as a professional at all times.

4. Dress as a teaching professional.

5. Use correct and respectful language.

6. Respect the authority of the head of the school.

7. Attend their assigned school for the full day with a 100% attendance rate.

8. Report absences to (in advance wherever possible):

a. the head of the school

b. the cooperating teacher

c. the supervisor

d. the Teaching Practice coordinator.

The prospective teacher must make up any lost time.

9. Immediately begin to learn about the school and issues related to:

a. student health

b. student safety

c. student security.

 

10. Fully participate in all the activities of the school including co-curricular activities and functions, even after school time.

11. Keep a detailed record of:

a. activities

b. guided observations

c. action research data

d. lesson plans.

These will become part of his/her portfolio.

12. Make all guided observations and do action research professionally with the help of the cooperating teacher and faculty.

13. Observe and write in detail about at least forty (40) lessons with the help of the cooperating teacher.

14. Prepare and teach at least forty (40) lessons with the help of the cooperating teacher and faculty.

15. Discuss problems and concerns with the cooperating teacher and faculty. Issues may be about:

a. lesson planning

b. guided observation

c. action research

d. other professional matters.

16. Respect all students, whether male or female.

17. Identify and share with faculty any issues related to:

a. diversity

b. inclusiveness

c. human rights

d. gender sensitivity.

 

With the help of faculty, the prospective teacher will develop recommendations and strategies for resolving the issues.

 

 

Regulations of Teaching Practice for Prospective Teachers

In the Teaching Practice system the following rules will apply to all prospective teachers:

 

1. They must follow the rules and regulations of their college/university.

2. They must follow the rules and regulations of their assigned school.

3. They must attend their assigned school every day of the practicum with a 100% attendance rate. This includes:

a. the one-day per week or mini-block assignments

b. the extended block session.

4. They must report absences to (in advance wherever possible):

a. the head of the school

b. the cooperating teacher

c. the supervisor

d. the practicum coordinator.

The prospective teacher must make up any lost time.

5. They must accept the responsibilities given by their college/university. These responsibilities are listed in the Teaching Practice manual.

6. They must do all guided observation and action research assignments.

7. They must observe at least forty (40) lessons.

8. They must prepare and teach at least (40) lessons. Out of these, preferably twenty (20) lessons must be at the lower primary level.

9. They must keep all the documents related to their practicum experience. The documents must include:

a. a reflective self-assessment journal

b. an observation log

c. a collection of lesson plans, resource materials and audiovisual aids (if possible).

10. They must have each lesson plan signed by their cooperating teacher and faculty supervisor or faculty mentor at least 24 hours before teaching the lesson.

11. If a prospective teacher fails the summative evaluation, they must repeat the practicum. In certain cases, this could lead to dismissal from the programme.
