This topic is all about thE (NWICO) because during the cold war the whole world divided into hostile East-West blocs. This had significant implications for the development of Third World countries. The phrase 'Third World' itself was a product of the Cold War, which was coined by French economic historian Alfred Sauvy in 1952. The Non-Aligned Movement, through the Group of 77, established in 1964 by third world countries, began to demand greater economic justice in such UN forums in 1974, the UN General Assembly formally approved their demand for the creation of a New International Economic Order (NIEO), a democratic interdependent economic order, based on equality and sovereignty, including the right to 'pursue progressive social transformation that enables the full participation of the population in the development process.
