Process of Socialization: Personality Development. An individual's personality is the complex of mental characteristics that makes them unique from other people. ... At a basic level, personality is expressed through our temperament or emotional tone. However, personality also colors our values, beliefs, and expectations.Socialization is important in the process of personality formation. While much of human personality is the result of our genes, the socialization process can mold it in particular directions by encouraging specific beliefs and attitudes as well as selectively providing experiences.The role of socialization is to acquaint individuals with the norms of a given social group or society. It prepares individuals to participate in a group by illustrating the expectations of that group. Socialization is very important for children, who begin the process at home with family, and continue it at school.
