Planning Research Project & Formulating Research
The goal of this chapter is to provide advice to students on some of the issues that they need to consider if they have to prepare a dissertation based upon a research project. Increasingly, business and management students are required to produce such a dissertation as part of the requirements for their degrees. In addition to needing help with the conduct of research, which will be the aim of the chapters that come later in this book, more specifi c advice on tactics in doing and writing up research for a dissertation can be useful. It is against this background that this chapter has been written. The chapter explores a wide variety of issues such as: • advice on timing; • advice on generating research questions; • advice on writing to help you produce compelling fi ndings; • advice on understanding the requirements of a dissertation project; • advice on what makes a good dissertation.
