Week 1-2: Introduction to Ultraviolet-Visible Spectroscopy, UV & wood ward Fieser rule for lamda max calculations.
Week 3-4: Introduction to IR, factors affecting IR and synthetic applications. Exercise of λ max calculation and Assignment. Lab: Qualitative analysis of carbohydrates, protein and lipid.
Week 5-6: Biomolecules (carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids, synthesis and properties), their importance. Lab: Estimate of glucose in the sample by the titration method.
Week 7-8: Heterocyclic compounds their properties, nomenclature, synthesis, importance and reactions. Lab: Determination of adsorption parameters of acetic acid on charcoal
Week 9: Mid-term Exams
Week 10-11: Surface phenomenon and colloids (physisorption, chemisorption, isotherm, its types, properties, preparation and application).
Week 12-13: Modern material (introduction to liquid crystal, inorganic polymers and ceramics, fiber glass, thin films, semi-conductors and composite materials).
Week 14-15: Nuclear chemistry (radio activity, stability of nuclei, nuclear transformation, measurement of nuclear radiation, nuclear reactions, nuclear hazard and safety measures).
Week 16-17: Chemical industries (metallurgy of Aluminium, manufacturing of sulphuric acid, nitric acid, fertilizers, cement, glass).
