Common white blood cell disorders and their causes include: Leukocytosis, an increased number of white blood cells: Possible causes include bacterial or viral infections, certain medications, allergies, smoking, inflammatory diseases, autoimmune disorders, a genetic condition, increase in the number of white blood cells is also caused by cancers of the bone marrow (such as leukemia) with the release of immature or abnormal white blood cells from the bone marrow into the blood.
