DESCRIPTION & OBJECTIVES:

The course offers students to understand the social-biological origins and dynamics of psychopathology in adults. This course is designed to provide students an introduction to the latest edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders to facilitate development of the basic mechanics of making psychological diagnoses as often required by employers and third-party payers. Main objectives of this course are to: provide students an overview of presumed etiology of various psychological disorders. This information is crucial to helping clinicians recognize and appreciate how psychopathology may develop, is maintained, and responds to treatment and recognizing variables associated with the onset and maintenance of psychological disorders may also help students differentiate amongst various psychological disorders.

Learnin Outcomes

By successful completion of this course, students will be able to

  • Understand the basic concept of abnormality and psychopathology
  • Understand relevant etiological factors for disorders as well as principles of diagnosis, treatment, and referral
  • Develop a knowledge of the course, symptomatology, and epidemiology of psychological disorders including co-occurring substance use disorders on medical and psychological disorders

Sessional: 20 %

  • Project & presentation: (Assignment 1= 10 + Assignment 2= 10) {Every student will select a topic of research study write synopsis, execute study and submit individual report followed by presentation.

Midterms: 30%

Final exam: 50%
